Santa entrenched as one of embodiments of Christmas season

A few days ago, my 9-year-old grandson told me that last year he had some doubts about Santa Claus. So, to satisfy his curiosity, he asked his dad to take a picture of Santa when he arrived at their house. Somehow his dad came through with flying colors because Max told me the picture looked nothing like his mother or dad, so this year, he feels quite satisfied that Santa will be coming. That was all well and good, but then he added, “This year, I'm going to ask him to look out the window and take a picture of the reindeer.” Well, we'll see what happens!

Be aware of old Dutch naming patterns that were present in many families

When searching for Dutch ancestors in old records, it is good to be aware of the old Dutch naming patterns that were present in many families. Typically, the naming of male children followed this pattern: the first male child was named after the paternal grandfather, the second male child was named after the maternal grandfather, the third male child was named after the paternal great-grandfather, the fourth male child was named after the maternal great-grandfather, and any subsequent male children could be named after the father or a favorite uncle with no specific order imposed.
