It is a matter of opinion. To me the topic folders are a waste of time when I wish to browse through every comment. There could be a comment that I would want to read in a topic folder that I may not click on. With slow dial-up internet as many still have, one page is faster and more simple. Look at how many folders that only have just a few comments. Thanks for the TribStar online though, it is a great service. Unfortunately, the guest book will no longer be a part of the tribstar.com Web site after this weekend. As part of a corporate decision to redesign all of the CNHI-owned newspaper Web sites, tribstar.com will have a new look in a day or so and the guest book is not part of the new design. Those of you who have already explored the forums are urged to return and join the discussion. If you haven't been there yet, please go and check them out. We already have created several places in the forums, such as Local Issues, High School and College Sports, Downtown Terre Haute, where you can discuss specific issues. And if you'd like us to start a new discussion, send me an e-mail and we'll get it going for you. Bob Orlandini Assistant Editor

I have tried the archives several times but I have been unable to locate a team picture of the 1946-1949 Terre Haute Phillies. That team was an important part of my childhood and I would love a team picture or even a photo copy of a newpaper print. Is there any out there who could steer me to someone who might help me?

The Guestbook must stay!! Because of a message that I left on the Guestbook on November 16, 2005, a much-loved niece from my former marriage was able to find me after almost a 16 years' absence. She has spent a lot of time searching for me and was finding it difficult because of my last name being a commonly known name. But she found me because of the comment that I left with the Guestbook. We are now in touch with each other again and plan a "reunion" in 2006. All of this just happened this past weekend -- and we spent almost 2-1/2 hours on the phone last night catching up on each other's life. As I originally stated in my comment of 11/16/05, the Guestbook enabled me to find a pen pal when I responded to her Guestbook comment, where she was seeking some info about the Terre Haute area when she lived there as a child. She now lives near Jackson, Mississippi, but through our e-mails and cards to each other, we are still sharing childhood memories of Terre Haute. And we are both hoping to meet each other in 2006 as well. These are two wonderful connections that I have made in 2005, thanks to your Guestbook!!! Keep up the good work in helping all of us keep in touch with "home" and renewing people in our lives as well as finding new friends. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone in my great home town -- Terre Haute, Indiana!!

just a message about the market on 4th St, "Shahadeys market, it was a good market, everyone was friendly, the candy was excellent, always got a lot during the holidays. Maybe someone, someday will decide to re-open it and provide the same good service to the community, like they did. Thanks

I was happy to read the comment from Jan Thompson of Crossville, Tenn. who use to live in Terre Haute. Is she the former Jan Benner from the Clayton area? I would love to get back in touch with her.

Saw the article in the paper on the "Shadady store that closed in Terre Haute, I had no idea that it was closed. Yes, I was one of those people who came in to get the old fashioned candy. No matter how many times I came in, I was treated always the same, friendly, and everyone was always glad to see you, no matter what the occasion, even if you were in a bad mood. They were always so happy. I live in Texas now, and really miss having that candy. but I guess all good things must end. too bad, someone else couldn't take up the store and re-opened it. Thanks

Thank you for having the recipe for Scalloped Pineapple in last Sunday's Tribune Star. My grandmother, Elsie Pearl Dinkins Jenkins Woods McClain always made this wonderful dish. I can remember having it at a family reunion in Deming Park back in the 60's. I didn't have the complete recipe. I only knew it had white bread and pineapple. Grandma used to laugh that people thought it had lots of expensive ingredients in it. It looked elegant in a pretty dish! You can bet I will be having it on the table for Christmas Eve with the ham. Would love to hear from relatives and friends that knew her. She gave me a love of genealogy and history. I am related to Jenkins, Dinkins, Montgomery, Landes, Fuqua, Ritchey, Buckler, Marrs/Marr, Poindexter, Krise, Colbert, Wright, Sears, Clay and others. I read the Trib-Star online as I live in Washington, the State. Please keep the guestbook. Kathi Jenkins Trostad

ELISHA BRIDGEWATERS. Hi Donna. I have responded to your inquiry about Elisha and Myrtle [Barnaby] Bridgewaters and sent data to your email address. However, AOL does not like me and my emails are routinely bounced. I need an alternate address in order to get the information to you. Since some of the data relates to living individuals, I do not want to post it. Best wishes.

I don't see what the fuss is about the new forums...I like them. It's a whole lot easier to read because there are catagories. The people that want to find old friends can do that and the people that want to discuss specific issues can have a conversation back and forth without having to wade through a bunch of other stuff that has nothing to do with the discussion at all. Plus the comments go up instantly. On this thing I might have to wait a few days to see the comments. and by then there will have been other people posting that push this comment down to the bottom or even the next page. So, bring on the forums!

Just a couple of comments. First and most important, Max Frey, I read your comments and Christy's comments and your apology is evidence that you are a good man, a real man, well done! At first glance I was dissapointed to see that the Guestbook was going, but after viewing the Forum, give it a try folks, you can discuss specific issues, look up old friends and communicate in a variety of ways, as opposed to the shotgun approach to the Guestbook. I was sad to see the Terre Haute House go, but look at the possibility of a brand new hotel for new generations to enjoy in the future. Change is difficult, but usually always for the better.
